Former Monongahela High School Sweethearts celebrated their 25 Year Anniversary
Found an interesting story recently for those from the upper Pennsylvania region. Former Monongahela High School Sweethearts celebrated their 25 Year Anniversary at the Cockatoo Inn.
The story states that John D.C. Parkinson and his wife, Jean (formerly Brown), Class of 1933 and 1937, respectively, enjoyed their Silver Anniversary at the Cockatoo Inn. They were married on June 10, 1937 in West Virginia. Thirty-five people attended the celebration the same day in 1962, which was held in the King’s Room at the Cockatoo Inn. The article goes on to say of the dinner:
“Following dinner, the couple cut a three-tiered anniversary cake, decorated with silver bells. The Parkinsons received many lovely gifts of silver.”
Before the former Monongahela High School sweethearts celebrated their 25 Year Anniversary at the Cockatoo Inn, they lived mostly in Pennsylvania before moving to El Segundo, California in 1948. They married off a daughter, Louise, and had a grandson named Randy Hunter. By our calculation, Randy would be age 57 in 2019. So if you’re out there Randy, we hope you find this photo of your grandparents at the Cockatoo Inn as special as we do.
