Temple Menorah Sisterhood’s Purim Ball of 1959
We recently stumbled upon an old newspaper clipping. It stated that The Temple Menorah Sisterhood’s Purim Ball of 1959 was held at the Cockatoo Inn. The following was printed in the Palos Verdes Peninsula News from 1959:
“Final arrangements are now being made to have Temple Menorah Sisterhood’s Purim Ball at the Cockatoo Inn, Imperial and Hawthorne Sts., on Saturday evening March 21, at 8 p.m. Information and reservations, $12.50 per couple, may be obtained by calling Mrs. Werner L. Frank at FR 8-2621.”
As this was one of our first posts, we were excited to see this 60 year-old story. The original paper clipping is below:

I grew up right off of Imperial High way near Crenshaw. I saw the cockatoo and all the time growing And had heard from my father it was an establishment owned and run by mobsters. He My father was head of finance at pepperdine University. Glad to see somebody has something up about the cockatoo in
